How soon will the results be available?
There are numerous factors – such as type of project, weather, number of measurements, lab availability – that determine the speed of execution. This means delivery time is specific to each project, and is communicated by the project manager.
What is the code of good practice?
The Flemish odour policy uses field panel measurements as one of the basic techniques for quantifying odour emissions and immissions. This code of good practice describes the methods for conducting field panel measurements, odour emission calculations and odour immission calculations.
What is an odour unit?
One European odour unit per cubic meter (ouE/m3) is the concentration of odourants that can just barely be sensed by an average person, with no distinction being made according to the origin of the odour ("type" of odour).
The amount of odourants that, when in 1 cubic metre of neutral gas at standard conditions, are just detectable by a panel, equivalent to a European Reference Odour Mass (EROM), evaporates when in 1 cubic meter of neutral gas at standard conditions. (ouE/m3)
European Reference Odour Mass (EROM): accepted reference value for the European odour unit, equal to a certain mass of a certified reference material. One EROM is equivalent to 123 mg of n-butanol (CAS No. 71-36-3). Evaporated in one cubic meter of neutral gas results in a concentration of 0.040 mmol/mol.
The odour emission released from a source is expressed in odour units per unit time (ouE/s).
What is a percentile value?
This is the percentage of time that a given averaged concentration is not exceeded. The fraction of measured or calculated values that fall below a certain predetermined threshold. When determining odour impact, the 98 percentile for 1 se/m³ is frequently used, this indicates the zone within which a concentration of 1 se/m³ or more is detectable for 2% of the time on an annual basis.
